Nous adressons nos plus chaleureuse félicitations à notre ancienne présidente, Cécile Namer, et son mari Arnaud, pour la naissance le 1er avril 2009 de leur fils Mattéo, futur membre de FEU !...

Le mois dernier nous avons lancé un nouveau projet très intéressant: France Etats-Unis a rencontré le directeur de Radio Occitania pour organiser une émission de radio hebdomadaire, le dimanche, sur des sujets franco-américains. Une nouvelle membre de FEU, Erica Smith-Escassut, originaire de la Lousianne, et son mari Philippe, sont récemment rentrés en France avec leurs deux enfants. Erica a de l’expérience dans le domaine radiophonique et prendra l’émission en charge. Nous lui souhaitons la bienvenue et la remercions. Nous projetons de commencer la première émission le dimanche 7 juin, de 10h à 11h. Radio Occitania propose aussi une formation de technicien radio, si l’un de nos membres est intéressé. Si vous voulez vous engager dans le milieu de la radio ou si vous avez des idées, vous êtes les bienvenus! Faites-le nous savoir.

La soirée Montana et son dîner pot-luck ont été très agréables pour le groupe. Pascal Bardet a préparé un diaporama sur l’histoire de cet Etat, puis a partagé ses photos et ses expériences comme professeur invité à l’université du Montana, à Missoula, l’an dernier.

Pour ce qui est du déjeuner-croisière sur la péniche l’Occitania, il a plu des cordes, mais tout le monde est arrivé à bord à temps avant de lever l’ancre. Déjeuner tout en naviguant calmement le long du canal a quelque chose de magique. L’ambiance était chaleureuse, le repas délicieux, et la conversation animée et amicale. C’est une expérience à renouveler absolument !

Le 15 avril, FEU, le Consul des Etats-Unis, et Hélène Mason, ont rencontré M. Agullo, le directeur du musée de la résistance. Notre objectif est d’identifier tous les sites où sont tombés des soldats américains en Midi-Pyrénées et de découvrir leur histoire. David Brown aimerait ensuite publier une brochure contenant ces informations. Nous souhaitons organiser régulièrement des commémorations sur ces sites, comme nous avons déjà commencé à le faire

Trois nouveaux membres nous ont rejoints ce mois-ci, nous leur souhaitons la bienvenue !

Autres événements :

La chambre de commerce américaine de Toulouse (AmCham) a organisé deux évèvements auxquels ont participer des membres de FEU. L’action de mécénat en faveur du projet “Un pont pour la liberté”, en l’honneur de Thomas Jefferson, les 27 et 30 avril; et un petit-déjeuner animé par le Consul des Etats-Unis, David Brown, sur la récente tournée européenne du président Obama. 

Notre pique-nique du 4/14 juillet se tiendra cette année le dimanche 5 juillet; il est organisé en coopération avec AIT/IC et nous inviterons aussi nos autres associations partenaires pour ce pique-nique d’été.

Notre "section Jeunes" a organise son happy hour habituel le 24, ainsi qu’une soirée cinema pour voir "In the Electric Mist/Dans la Brume Electrique", film de Bertrand Tavernier dont l’action se situe en Lousianne, après l’ouragan Katrina.

What happened in April?   We warmly congratulate our Past-President, Cécile Namer and husband Arnaud on the birth on April 1st of a handsome, healthy future FEU member: Mattéo. 

We have launched an exciting new project! FEU met with the Director of Radio Occitania this month. The outcome is that France Etats-Unis will sponsor a weekly Sunday radio broadcast on Franco-American subjects on Radio Occitania. New FEU member, Erica Smith-Escassut, a native of Louisiana, and her husband Philippe recently returned to France with their two children. Erica has radio experience and will ensure the broadcast. The plan is to start on the first Sunday, June 7th from 10 to 11am. Radio Occitania is also offering to train someone as radio technician, if any of our members are interested. If you wish to be involved in the broadcasting business or have ideas, you are most welcome. Let us know.

Soirée MONTANA was a lovely evening and pot luck dinner for the happy group. Pascal Bardet prepared a diapo on the history of the state and then shared his photos and experiences as a visiting professor of English at the University of Montana in Missoula.

For the luncheon Cruise on L’Occitania, It was raining ‘cats and dogs’ but everyone was on board on time to cast off. There is something magic when you are dining and slowly navigating down the canal. The ambiance was warm, the meal delicious, and the conversation friendly and animated. It is certainly an experience worth repeating!

On April 15th, FEU and the US Consul and Helene Mason met with the Director, Mr Agullo of the Musée de la Résistance. Our objective is to identify all sites of fallen American soldiers in Midi Pyrénées and find out their stories. David Brown would then like to publish a brochure with this information. We would like to commemorate the sites on a regular basis.

Three new members joined FEU this month. We wish them a very warm welcome!

Other events:

The American Chamber of Commerce in Toulouse (AmCham) organized two events with participation by FEU members. The Pont de la Liberté project patronage action in tribute of Thomas Jefferson on April 27th and on the 30th, a Breakfast discussion led by US Consul D Brown on President Obama's recent European tour.

The FEU 4th of July/Bastille Day Picnic will be held as a Summer Picnic together with AIT International on Sunday July 5th.
 
Our "section Jeunes" organized their usual popular Happy Hour on the 24th and also a movie outing to see "In the Electric Mist/Dans la Brume Electrique" a thriller made by  Bertrand Tavernier in post-Katrina Louisiana.
