  • Detained Chinese Fishermen, Boat Released by North Korea
    Officials in Beijing say 16 Chinese fishermen who were seized for ransom in North Korea have been released. China's foreign ministry said the men and their fishing boat were returned safely on Tuesday. It added that no ransom was paid.   • Seven Muslims Charged for Killing Buddhist Monk in Burma
    A court in Burma has convicted seven Muslims for the killing of a Buddhist monk during deadly sectarian riots in a central town earlier this year. Officials say the defendants received sentences ranging from life to two years in prison for their involvement in the March 20 incident in the town of Meikhtila. La première mission diplomatique américaine fut établie en 1779 par Benjamin Franklin à Paris, la France étant le premier pays au monde de reconnaitre les États-Unis d'Amérique.

Aujourd'hui, les États-Unis sont représentés en France par un ambassadeur et des services consulaires à Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Rennes, Strasbourg et Toulouse.

AmbassadorRivkin120L'actuel ambassadeur des États-Unis d'Amérique en France est Charles H. Rivkin. Son Excellence Monsieur l'Ambassadeur a été nommé le 1er juin 2009 par le Président Obama et a prêté serment le 3 août 2009.

La représentation américaine à Paris est constituée de trois missions: l'ambassade, la mission américaine à l'Organisation de Coopération et de Développement Economique (O.C.D.E) et la mission américaine à l'UNESCO. Cinquante trois agences gouvernementales sont reliées à ces missions.

La Section Consulaire de l'Ambassade à Paris offre un grand nombre de services de visa aux Français. Les bureaux consulaires de Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice, Rennes, Strasbourg et Toulouse procurent uniquement assistance aux citoyens américains et ne sont pas autorisés à délivrer des passeports ou des visas.
